2008 Goals

Here are some things I would like to accomplish in 2008; broken into three categories, Life, Health, and Fitness.

Life: I love to read, and I told myself that I would pick that back up once I was done with graduate school. I have about 10 books to read on my bookshelf! I have also thought of starting some sort of book club; whether here in ND, or a virtual one in blogland. I also love to paint. I haven't really done much since highschool and I would like to get back into that. I prefer to do landscapes, farms, etc. As long as I have a pic to refer to, I am willing to attempt it. I would also love to do some more traveling... and I hope a race or two might require me to do so!

Health: I want to do the following 3 things - Eat better. Sleep better. Take my vitamins... everyday. Plain and simple.

Fitness: I have many races I am looking at for 2008 and will probably not decide on until later. I want to try a few different races and distances, as I have only done 5K's in the past. Here's a few of the races I am looking at in 2008:
And then there are the races I have done in the past ... and then some that I am possible looking at doing.... if they work into my schedule...
  • Danskin Triathlon
  • UND Homecoming Race - Grand Forks, ND (end of Sept./early Oct)
  • Homerun 10K - Fargo, ND
  • 5K (or 10K) Turkey Trot - Bismarck, ND (Thanksgiving Day)
  • 5K Jingle Bell Run - Fargo, ND (First weekend in Dec.)
  • Zoo Year's Eve 5K - Bismarck, ND (Last Sunday in December)

If my first half marathon goes well, I would like to attempt one in August/September out of state. I have a few ideas, but I am always open for more ...

In training for my first real triathlon, I would like to take the time to really improve my endurance in swimming. With my running, I am not looking to improve speed. Instead, I want to be able to build my mileage, slowly, and without injuring myself. I have been looking over the Jeff Galloway plan and have heard such good things about it.

Happy New Year's, y'all! :)

Definitely come for Twin Cities 10 mile!! I'm doing the full and I have a LOT of people from out of town that I know from blogs or online groups and there is going to be a big bash! Heck, sometime when you're just in town we should meet up for a run or something!

Those are some great goals! I'm up for a blogland book club - I read constantly and am always looking for new ideas!

P.S. How do you do those really nice tables? I'm jealous.

It feels pretty good to set up goals doesn't it? I had a sense of accomplishment just by putting mine in blogland.

I'm sure that you'll achieve all you set!

Go for it!

I love your goals - glad you included your life goals. I used to paint; it's neat that you have that in there as something you might want to do more.

I also like the going farther vs. going faster. That was my goal in 2007. :)

Anyway, I hope that 2008 bring you everything you wish for...and more!

I love the virtual book club idea - especially with a group of like-minded folk ... assuming we are of like minds for we read one another's blogs :)

I was in a book club for a couple of years (in fact I was one of the founding members) but finally dropped out a few months ago. As the group grew, it evolved and there was a lack of actual reading! It became more of a social thing and this frustrated me. Particularly when we had agreed to read Bowerman and the Men of Oregon and then I was the only one to actually read it! Anyway... I'm totally in! :)

btw - thanks for the great tips on ND/SD. I definitely plan to visit someday - I just don't know when. :)

Those are some great goals and I'm sure you'll have no problem achieving them. I like the reading one and would love to join your blogland book club but put "maybe" on the survey b/c I wasn't sure how often you'd be switching books...

Great goals for 2008! And I love books, so a book club could be tempting.
