I've been thinkin'

...I know, I know. I shouldn't think too hard, because it starts to hurt when I do.

Some of you, who should remain nameless, have been putting the 70.3 bug in my ear. So, I have been thinking about that, and my many other races I have interest in for 2009 and have come to a conclusion. Here's are the factors and decisions:
  • For the past year or so, I have had 70.3 in my mind and as a goal to accomplish before I turn 30... thus being accomplished prior to 12.09.10. This gives me almost another 2 years to accomplish.
  • In 2009, I would like to be able to do a couple shorter distance tri's first... since all I have done thus far is an indoor tri. I have two particular races in mind, one a sprint and one an olympic.
  • 2009 is also going to be the year of hopefully 2 half marathons and a handful of other events.
  • I have heard and read about many different 70.3 races and reports, but one that has intrigued me to no end is the Beach2Battleship 70.3 in November. It's in one of my all-time favorite places to travel to. In addition, since it takes place in November, it gives me the best months in North Dakota to train outdoors.
  • Money is a factor as well. Actually, it is probably my biggest factor and decision maker. I just bought a house, and lots of furniture. I will be making a couple big trips this coming year and will hopefully be purchasing a new computer as well.

I am going to wait until 2010 to do Ironman 70.3...

...but don't you worry... I will be doing this distance... just not in 2009.

Unless I win the lottery.

Don't forget about the USAT rule changes for 2009. You compete in the age group of your age as of 12/31 of the year of the race. So in 2009 you'll compete in the 29 yr category, 2010 you'll compete in the 30 category. Even though you won't be that old until late in the year. Come on, join the rest of us 70.3 virgins in 2009!

I have a few things that I want to accomplish by a certain age also. They seem to always be in the back of my mind. And the clock keeps ticking louder.

Cool, you have the race and the timing figured out. Now all you have to do is go make it happen. :-)

"Just Tri It!"

I've been thinking of tris too! If you end up doing the beach to battleship I'll cheer you on!

Doing a 70.3 in the same year as you do your first Olympic is doable, but I think waiting till the following year is just smarter. Do a sprint or two and an Olympic or two. You'll be more than ready to take on the Half Ironman.

2010 sounds like a great year to do 70.3! Another year of hearing about all of my training blunders for my 70.3. There is still Rock N' Roll in Va. Beach where I can cheer you on!

That's an awesome goal and plenty of time to work towards it. Have a great 2009! :)

I support whatever decision you make b/c I plan to still be reading in 2010 if that's when you end up doing it!

Sounds like 2009 will be extremely busy for you and hopefully you'll have time to enjoy your new house and furniture and trips. That sounds good too!

I need some advice from you. I'm currently thinking about running a half this year and was wondering if you might be able to give me some training advice - I'd love to hear your recommendations!
