Dangerous!

After yesterdays day of nothing but cleaning and organizing, I was anxious to get in a nice run today. I didn't want to follow my habit of the past two weeks.... running only once a week. Last night while watching the Olympics I worked on a new playlist with some fresh new songs. By the time I was done, I had 60 minutes worth of songs, and that is just what I was going to do... run for 60 minutes today.

I decided to do it on the treadmill, as it was overcasting and I didn't want to mess with the rain. About 20 minutes into my run I started making excuses. I remembered I had plans for lunch with ladies from work and started calculating the time I would have left after my run to get ready. Then, the iPod was on the tail end of it's life. The devil in me said if I make it to 3 that would be good. Deep down inside it was just a goal of mine to do 5 miles... and when I reached 5 miles I wanted to quit, but I went on and did the full 60 minutes. This was the longest run I have done since the Half Marathon in May... yikes. Not cool.

After I was done I felt great. No pain in the knees or shins and my quads felt strong. I even had time to write up this post before lunch! ha.

Today's Song: KARDINAL OFFISHALL feat. AKON - 'DANGEROUS' --->

ORN: 5.45 miles, 60:00, 11:00/mile average

Way to go the full 60 min. Nothing like a little inner-battle to make a run more interesting. :)

Nice! Pushing through a run with that energy on the other side is a great feeling. Sometimes on the TM when I have those quitting temptations I play mind-games - just run through this one more song, this one more 1/10 of a mile to get to the next round number, etc. And it works! You've got a great mental strength there :-)

I'm glad you toughed it out. It can be incredibly hard to keep going on a treadmill. Sounds like the playlist may have contributed to your success. Hooray!

Good for you for sticking with the plan. :o)

You mentioned that you've only been running one a week lately.... have you ever noticed how, as a triathlete, your interest in any one of the disciplines can dramatically wax and wane from month to month (or even week to week)? Right now for me, it's swimming. It takes all of my effort just to get myself to the pool... and usually swimming is my 'thing'. I was talking with a seasoned IM vet at my gym yesterday about this exact thing. One month it can be cycling, the next running... it's so hard to keep everything balanced.

I should blog about this... LOL!

Awesome run, even though you wanted to quite you hung in there and did the full 60. Those runs are some of the hardest, and it's just so easy to say "well three is enough." Way to hang in there and get the 60 min in.
