Freezin' my Tail off

First of all ... I officially signed up for the Lifetime Fitness Indoor Triathlon in Maple Grove, MN! I can't wait. I spent some time looking over the results from the Chanhassen race last year, looking at the high and low numbers for the women in each discipline and trying to think about possible goals for myself. I will be attempting a "mock trial" on my own the first weekend in March to get an idea of what it will be like and what my goals should truly consist of. I feel as if I am more than ready for this Tri, but I am going to continue doing what I am doing with maybe a little more cycling as this seems to be the first thing neglected when I have been too busy.

Now, I just need to register for my Half Marathon in May ...

Just throwing this out there.... I will be thinking about doing either the 6.7 mile run or Half Marathon at Crater Lake August 9th. My parents are planning on doing the Half Marathon and my sister was thinking of joining, thus we are contemplating making this a family trip. Like I said... I am just throwing this out there. Isn't the picture worth doing the run? Makes me kind of feel warm and fuzzy inside!

My morning workout #1 this week was successful. I was able to get in a 3 mile run this morning. I didn't go for 40 minutes, but I had a little soreness from my "faster" 2 miles last night. Instead of lifting, I took the time to stretch real well and do a bit of an ab workout. Somewhere down the road I am going to have to incorporate lifting into my schedule on a regular basis. Right now it is just shoved here and there, whenever I know I have enough time before or after a given workout.

It's freekin' freezin' here. Point blank. I was hoping it was going to be warm enough come this weekend to do my 6.5 miles outdoors... probably won't happen.

Question of the day: What is everyone's favorite Half Marathon Training Plan/Method?
I am currently using the Jeff Galloway Plan and all is dandy, but I was comparing it to Hal Higdon's and they are very different.

ORN: 3 miles
34:00
11:20 min/mile

Stay warm! LOVE the caroon...esp with the doxie that just joined my parents home. Poor thing!
A family run sounds VERY cool...a lot of families could learn a lot from yours!
Take Care

Love the cartoon.

As for the HM program, I am on a 16 week training program that I started on Monday - made my TNT coach. I am not doing anything shorter so I do not risk injury.

The photo is beautiful.

My 'favorite' plan is 'wing it' because oops, I should have started training already and now i'm three weeks behind. Okay, I don't recommend it, but it's gotten be through two halves so far. ;)

You know what I like about the Galloway plan? The light running during the week, long run on the weekend, and the alternating long run/short run weekends. It got me through two marathons injury free! Have a blast. That 6.7 mile run around that particular lake looks spectacular!!

WHOO HOOOOO to committing to the indoor tri, I'm sure you'll do great! ;D

I've been using the FIRST plan. 3 days running 2/3 days cross training. It stresses quality miles over quantity, blah, blah, blah LOL But I dig it just because it works with my schedule :-)

I've always thought Crater Lake would be a very cool run. But, I think it's pretty tough! Good luck.

As for 1/2 training plans, I use the one on runnersworld.com where you put in various info to create your plan.

I have also looked into the Lifetime indoor triathlon. It looks like fun! You are going to do great!

oooooo indoor tri - I'd love to try that!! My HM training consists of do marathon training for as long as you can hack it ( I made it to the 14 mile long run ) then cut the rest of the miles in half and do a half. :D Sorry, it is pretty lame! Good luck finding what you like.

Re: your question on hotels, I'd be happy to give you tips. Email me sometime (nonrunner@gmail.com) and let me know what the top few priorities are and what you are looking to do.

Take care. I hope it warms up. It was minus 3 when I left.

Congratulations on registering for your Tri! It is such a great feeling to put our goals and plans into action! :)

If you do the Crater Lake HM - I'll join you! It is just a hop skip and a jump from where we are and I've always wanted to do it myself. I peeked at my calendar and so far it is free! :)

I've used 2 plans ... FIRST and RW Advanced Marathoning. FIRST got me to the finish but RW has certainly helped me to improve (I carved off 38 minutes).

Great pic!! I hope that you all get to do the run together. That would be a lot of fun!! Keep up the good work on your training, and I'm glad that you signed up for a tri. Good luck!!

The last 1/2 I did was from a plan out of an old Runner's World. It worked alot on speed rather just endurance. Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested, I would have to look up what month/year the magazine was.

It is a little bit shorter...but I like to use the FIRST plan...as I already have a good base set of miles..and it builds in cross training which I love so much.

I have this old copy of runner's world with a training plan in it that I like to use. No idea who's it is but it works for me.

The lake course looks spectacular! What races are you looking at in May?

That pic is nice!

I think the family trip to do the half is a great plan. It's just amazing you all will be doing the half! That will be very special.

I like the first plan too, like Marcy, cause it's 3 days a week and while doing tri training and race training, it just worked. However, I did modify it - I don't put as much into the running (speedwork/tempos) as it says. So, I have a modified version of the plan.

I followed Hal Higdon's plan for my half marathon and I liked it. There was a nice mix of running and cross training and all the long runs were on the weekend.

I'd say depends on what your goals are for the half. If you have a time goal, personally I prefer Higdon...he goes a bit harder, and different levels. Runner's world has a program you can use to put in the time (supposed to be what you finished last one at, I put my goal time in) and it creates a semi custom plan. Kind of a nice one.

I've use Hal's HM plan before and liked it. I'm following his plans for my 15K and marathon this year.
