Summer Plans

Yes, I am thinking about summer already, but it doesn't help that some people have asked what I plan to do with ALL of my time off...being a teacher and all....

I will admit, I do love the perk of having almost 3 months off from work. However, only having 3 personal days during the school year kind of stinks especially if I want to travel with others that travel during the school year (aka ... family).

So, here's what I got going on this summer:
  • June 6 - July 7 - Teach special education summer school (Mon-Fri: half days)
  • June 6 - August 6 - Take online Autism Methods course
  • June 4-6 - possible weekend at the farm (visiting Dad's side of the family)
  • June 19 - Cousin's wedding (out of town)
  • June 26 - Possibly a Triathlon in Perham, MN
  • July 2-4 - 4th of July at home
  • July 10 - Another cousin's wedding (out of town)
  • July 17 - Friend's wedding (out of town)
  • July 23-25 - Possibly attending a Bachelorette party (Minneapolis)
  • July 31 - Aug 1 - Possibly participate in the MS 100 Ride
  • August 14 - Twins game at Target Field/celebrate Dad's birthday
  • August 21 - Detroit Lakes Triathlon

If I counted right, there are 3 open weekends between June 1st and when school starts on August 26. With almost every weekend in June/July taken, it's hard for me to try and plan any sort of fun trip. Asside from trying to travel, with all those fun-filled weekends, I am limited to doing any more races/events than the couple I have listed. Total bummer.

We start back up at work on the 26th of August, the kiddos start back on August 31st and we go until June 6th. Now that is something new. In North Dakota, I have never seen a school still in session in June. Yay....

Most of those weekends of weddings and family road trips are 3-5 hour drives one way...

What kind of fun things do you have planned for your summer, even if you don't have almost 3 months off?

I have my last "summer break" this year, sad! I have an internship working 40 hour weeks.. kind of wish I was just still in school for the summer haha.
Your summer looks jam packed! I can't decide if I want to do the triathlon this year since it's right after my sister's wedding..

I had always wondered how many personal and sick days teachers got. Now, I'm not jealous of teachers at all!

This summer... um, working and enjoying weekends at the lake. We're going to Cancun in May! Can't wait!

Only three personal days? What about sick days too? When I taught in Baltimore City, we were given a total of 10 days off. Personal and sick, but it really didn't matter if you were sick or not.

Do you need to schedule recovery time from the parties? :)

Have you checked to see if there are any races in the towns you are visiting for weddings? Maybe you could combine your visit with some local 5K's or train on new territory.

I hate that I can never go on vacation during the school year too!!! We have two personal days a year. It looks like an awesome summer!

I hate when summer rolls around and I realize that practically every weekend is booked. Sometimes I just want to go to the beach!
I'm surprised that being in school in June is rare. I NH we start at the same time as ND, but they don't get out until Mid-June. In fact, when I graduated, I graduated on Father's Day (June 17th, I think). And the rest of the school still had a few more days. How's that for a short summer?

Other than two triathlons, I gotz no plans. I'm sure I'll whip some stuff up at the last minute :-) Cuz that's the way I roll...

all of those weddings cut way to much into RACE BUDGETS. Don't people realize this...LOL!!!

I LOVE the planning and training. Race day is the final icing to the cake.

Man what is it with summer's filling up soooo fast. Seriously, I'm realizing I have very few free weekends already and it's only April! Gahhh! And I don't have almost three months off.

Its amazing how quickly summer vacation gets eaten up by obligations! When I was working as a school counselor, we went until mid-June every year and were back at the end of August. And as a counselor, I had to be there 5 days before teachers started and 5 days after teachers ended at the end of the year. Summer flies by!

This summer, I am taking 2-3 courses to get into my RD program, and buying and moving into a new house. Its going to be a busy one!

Wow- I am kind of jealous- we BARELY get two months off and I always work for most of it at a summer job and tutoring- last year I had about 1 week fully off. This summer will be a bit better because I have to take time off for my wedding and honeymoon so I won't have a full time summer job which is nice.

Looks like you have some fun plans for the summer. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with a million weddings to attend all the time!

Yikes...I haven't thought much about summer yet! So far, only two things with dates attached to them - a camping trip on the beach and a trip to New Brunswick to see friends :)
My husband is a teacher, so summer is true break time at our house too!

Whoa--- we are in school until June 25!!! Usually we are out by the 16th or so but this year we had many snow days. We always go back the Tuesday after Labor Day. And yes, my whole summer is planned out too!

That's still a fairly ambitious summer, even with the time off. And you sure have a lot of people in your life getting married lately!

Your summer is going to be very busy! We'll have a pretty low-key one here.

I like your new profile pic! I don't have anything "planned", it will just involved keeping 3 young boys entertained for 10 weeks (yes, I have already counted the weeks).
