Fartleking Around

"Ms. S, is your husband taking you out for dinner tonight... for Valentine's?" - sweet 4th grade student.

"No, I am not married." - me.

"Well, is your boyfriend then?" - student.

"No. No boyfriend either." - me.

"You CAN'T be alone on Valentines!" - student.

Oh, yes I can. And I will. The only date I had tonight was a date with the gym. And, believe it or not, the gym was pretty quiet. The only people that were probably there were those who are married or single. Not exactly the way I would have liked to spend v-day, but that's how it goes!

I am kicking myself a bit for not heading to the gym last night. This snow storm that we were supposed to get? Well, we probably only got about 2-3 inches of snow, and the wind was minimal. It was done snowing before I even went to bed.

The 'rents and baby sis and I are heading to the cities tomorrow to visit my sis and bro-in-law. All this traveling is kind of hard on the training. That will be two days off for sure, unless I get to the gym with sis or run outside if the weather is nice. What are my chances I will get in a good workout? geez...

Back to my run though. My goal was to just run. I was kind of thinking of doing some sort of fartlek, and that is basically what I did. Nothing too exciting, but it is nice to change it up a bit!

ORN: 2.71 miles
30:00
11:04 min/mile

I really have to get into a habit of working out in the morning. My days are so long these days, that the last thing I want to do, or have time to do in the evening is run, swim or bike... Next week I have three afternoons/evenings full of work stuff and I am going to have to attempt early morning workouts.. ... yeah.

I enjoyed listening to Sweet Child o' Mine on your blog. I had to hang out and sing along for awhile. I haven't heard that song in forever! :)

Anyway, sorry you don't have any fun plans for V-day. (Aren't kids funny with what they say?) But, good for you for getting that workout in. Keep training strong!

Ummm... Are there categories of which I am not aware? ;-)

Man! You are getting speedy speedy! Happy Valentine's Day, Teaching/Tri/Runner gal-friend :-)

Umm... Wes? When I said that I meant "older married couples" and I was referring to those who are dating to be missing from the gym... does that make sense?!?!

The snow you missed made its way to Wisconsin. We were supposed to get 3 inches today. We ended up getting 8.

Good job getting your workout in though. I skipped mine due to the snow.

Mornings are tough - even with a treadmill in the house!

Morning sucks, but it does clear up the day (and gives an option of a second workout if you're bored, which I kind of am sometimes!!). V-day does suck. I met with my financial planner, almost bought a computer but they found the two coming in were already spoken for...disappointment. At least I had a good 7 in the morning!!

good job on the run.

You're better than I when I was single on v-day. I used to get together with single friends and get wasted. I think the gym is much healthier.

If it helps.. I didn't do anything either! And even if I was seeing someone at this time, I probably wouldn't have done anything either. Its not my fav holiday!

I hear you about having a hard time fitting in the gym after work. It'll be so nice when the sun is out early again here and it's finally warm outside - makes getting up early so much easier. Good luck...

Nice job on the fartlek...and traveling definitely puts a kink in the training. It's been killing me the past few weeks too.

Great job on the run!! I'm not a morning person either. I will have to find a way to change that.

My V-day consisted of going to the cheap show ($1.50/movie) to see 'P.S. I Love You' with two of my single lady friends.
