Wednesday Wamblings

  • I got my new shoes. I searched online for a steal-of-a-deal, but had not success. So, I checked out the local Dick Beardsley's Running Co. store and found the Brooks Trance 9's there. It too a few seconds to get over the price of $140. Yikes. I think the past 2 pairs of Brooks I bought were on clearance for about $60-$70, and I haven't bought shoes in over a year, so that made me feel a bit better. (Note to self: remember to always always check the clearance rack for shoes, even if I am not in need at the time.) After choking on the price, I had a new challenge to overcome: the color. I know I shouldn't worry about the color of my running shoes as long as they are the right ones for me, but I wasn't thrilled about all the white. Plus, I feel like I need to be a New Orleans Saints fan in order to wear them. Ummm. no thanks. Don't worry, I will soon get over that since the shoes feel won.der.ful.!

  • It seems as if the cramping in the calves and feet is slowing disappearing. I haven't run much in the past week, but when I have, I haven't noticed any calf cramping. I am drinking more water and using nuun a few times a week, in addition. However, Monday, I was dealing with some serious side-stitches while running. I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another!
  • Tonight is my last swim practice for this session. It's been a pretty good session. I made it to 7 out of the 8 practices. We will start up again the second week of June, which will give us a nice break.

  • The Fargo Marathon is just around the corner! I will be working the Youth Run that Thursday night. The theme of this year is to promote better health for our youth, thus they are kicking off the marathon weekend! Right now it looks like we have over 500 kids pre-registered for the 1/2 mile and 1 mile run that evening and temps are expected to be in the 80's! I will be participating in the weekends events while doing the 5K/10K Challenge: running the 5K Friday night and then the 10K that Saturday morning! I have never done anything like this before, so I am super pumped!

  • A little over two weeks left of school! Well, 12 days with kids to be exact. 13 days of work. Things are starting to wind down a bit. I am enjoying the fact that I only have two big meetings left this year; one is a transition meeting for a student who has moved in from out of state, the other is for a dismissal of a student from special education services. I have dismissed 3 students this year, which doesn't happen that often, but it's great to see students make such progress that they no longer need special education services.

  • I am so sick of this dreary, cold weather. It's been in the high 30's to high 40's for the past week and a half now and I am sick of it. Even though my grass looks lush, the rain must go! Come Friday, and 70's and 80's will be here for the next week at least! Ahhh!

  • I am looking for some new tunes! I want to organize my playlist for the upcoming 5K/10K challenge and would love if it any of you would give a few suggests! I love all kinds of music, but would prefer something upbeat suggestions for race day!

those are some cold temps. I am with you...bring on friday already!

I still have a hard to paying full price for shoes. Unreal what some of them cost these days! Save your pennies now for your next pair. :)

What a great round-up/catch-up post!

Glad you scored some shoes, even if the color isn't ideal. I hope they work out great for you! The price of running shoes kills me and mine are NEVER on sale... at least not in my ginnormous 10.5 size.

Crazy that the school year is almost up already!

I got new Brooks yesterday too (Adrenaline's). As for the tunes, I've been suggesting United State of Pop 2009 by DJ Earworm. If you're into the top 40's at all, it's fantastic. You have to watch the video too, the editing is amazing!

Carry Out by Timbaland - I think I spelled that right.. That's the only song I can think of right now.

Ah, running shoes are definitely expensive, but finding a pair you like is totally worth the money :-)

Wow, you guys get out early!

Send some of that chilly down here - it's summer weather here today.

Right now a few upbeat favorites of mine include "All the right moves", "Up up and away" and "united state of pop 2009" by dj earworm.
That's so exciting about the 5k/10k, I bet you're going to have tons of fun!

Just Fine by Mary J Blige

I don't blame you for not loving the shoe color. I like mine to have a little more spunk too!

And good luck this weekend with your races. Running a 5K and a 10K will be fun. Just make sure you don't go all speedy gonzalez on the 5K so you still have energy for the next day!

Nothing better than a new pair of shoes! Love 'em. And if you haven't had a new pair in a year, you will really feel the difference. Happy running :)

I'm sick of this chilly weather too. I'm hoping for some warmer temps for my tri on Sunday.
And I'm picky about the color of my running shoes too, if it makes you feel better. :-)

I often ask for running shoes as either Christmas or b-day gifts. Even if I am not in need of them at the time, I always know I will be and it saves me some $$$!

*Sexy* shoes girly! I'm big on color too, although I know it doesn't really matter. If I'm going to spend $100+ on something, I better like it- color AND ALL! :)

Dismissed 3 students this year?! YOU ROCK!!! That's really amazing and wonderful.

I am lucky- live super close to the Brooks corporate headquarters and they have an outlet nearby. You can find deals as good on clearance- but it's still nice!

I am jealous you are out so soon. My last day with kids is June 16 and my last day is the 18th.Our weather has been lousy too, so I guess maybe summer will hit here by the time I'm on vacation.

Yay Brooks!! That is all I run in.

However, I do feel like they have bad colors. I made the mistake two pairs of shoes ago of going with some pink Mizunos instead cause they were so pretty and the Brooks were just boring blue. BIG mistake - they killed my feet and after a month I had to switch back to Brooks blue and all. I have written them a few times and told them they need pink! the ones I just got have purple so I guess they are slowly moving in the right direction. Bottom line though - comfort over color - I learned the hard way.

Yay for new shoes! I agree with you on the all white - they always get so dirty so quickly. But, you probably won't even notice it.

Awesome on the temps going up! It was warm here, then became cold again, but is back up to warm and humid right now. Hope you get some sunshine soon!

As for playlist tunes - Boyz by MIA, Savior by Rise Against, and Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve (I used this one to make sure I started slow)are my current faves. Good luck!

I'm the same way with sneakers. I want them to be pretty too!

I am desperately in need of new running shoes. I put it off too long and my last run left me hobbling.

Oh my gosh, I am seriously so sick of the rain and cold! I am getting so crabby...I woke up this morning with a little hope that there would be sunshine! No dice:(

Woo hoo, for the new shoes:) Last weekend my daughter and I went to the Nike store and I saw a girl looking at the Nike Tempo shorts...she asked me what I thought of them and told me that she was running in the Fargo half marathon! She was so excited and asked me if I have heard anything about that half marathon. I just smiled and said flat and fast:) So I have heard! I am looking forward to hearing how it goes for you. Maybe next year I can do it too:)

Being the uber-cheap girl I am, running shoes are hard for me to buy. I know they're well worth the money, but it's still tough.

Can't wait for the nice weather coming!

Ugh, I want less windy and warmer weather too! :) As for running songs, love Till I Collapse from Eminem. have a great weekend!

If you like Brooks, look into the BrooksID program, if you get accepted, you get a nice hefty discount on all their products.

Luv...style IS important....the shoe has to look good on, as well as perform as advertised. Hope they work for you...

A friend of mine is doing the Fargo marathon. Pretty crazy since we are in Texas!

Yes, add golden oreos to your shopping list! They're fantastic since I'm not a chocolate fan. And now that I found my ipod...

"Flathead" The Fratellis
"Ride on Shooting Star" The Pillows (A Japanese band that does a lot of rock music for anime, and it's actually good music, so don't be afraid to listen to them!)
"Sealion" Feist
"Running on Sunshine" Jesus Jackson
"Stay with Me" The Faces
"Never Been any Reason" Head East

That's a small portion of my playlist right now. I'm trying to find some new music too. The same songs get old after a while. Good luck in your search. And you're at the end of the school year, you're almost there!! :)

Yay for new shoes, but I agree shoes are expensive!

I just finished updating my play list for this weekend's half marathon. I put some Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly and OK Go on the list. And yes, Lady GaGa.

Yeah, five years ago I would have never imagined I could ever spend what I now spend on shoes. But when you find the ones that are right for you it makes it easier to cope with. :)
