1. Like never before, I have been dealing with nasty calf/feet cramps. Mom thinks I am drinking too much water and flushing out my electrolytes. Maybe mom's really do know best. :) So during my run yesterday I drank water with a little something something in it - Nuun. I use the Tri Berry flavor and love love love it.
2. I NEED new running shoes. BAD. I think I realize this at about the same time I realize I need to get my hair cut - when it's well over due. The shoes I have right now look like their in good shape, but I feel like my feet are sliding all over the place in them. I checked out Scheel's after my run yesterday and they had ZERO pairs of Brooks Trance. Supposedly they are out of last year's style and probably not getting the new style in until June 1 or July 1. The guy didn't know for sure. Some help he was. I can't wait 1-2 months to get new shoes! Dang.
3. I skipped swim team this morning. I just didn't have it in me and have already swam 2500Yds between Sunday's triathlon and Tuesday's practice. As much as I was disappointed that I didn't make it (since I am paying for it) it was nice to try and get an extra hour of sleep. Once again, I am having a hard time falling asleep and sleeping through the nights this week. This is so not like me, because I usually can fall asleep shortly after my head hits the pillow, whether it's 8pm or 10pm, and can sleep for 8+ hours if given the chance. It's so frustrating, but I think it might be stress related. I am not overly stressed, just extremely busy at work and such.

Try some thicker socks to see if it reduces the sliding.
If you know what shoes you're getting and the correct size, maybe try Amazon?
Hope you sleep well tonight!!
Do you run in the Trance 8 or 9's? The 9's are a different feel, higher arch, I thought they were uncomfortable. I am surpised the shoe store doesnt have the 9's, they been out since last fall.
Thanks for the heads up on the cramping in your feet and calf, ME TOO! Especially at night while sleeping...GAH!
New shoes, okay, you've made me think that maybe I'm in for new shoes too....
I'm going to look for some Nunn while I'm looking at new Saucony's...thanks...
Interesting idea on the cramping/water. I hope the electrolytes help! Yay for Mom's advice. :)
I've been aggressively addressing my chronic system wide cramping issues with saltstick tabs during training and a mag-cal supplement separate from that. I drink a TON 'O AQUA and have had to elarn the hard way about the importance of keeping good electrolytes in my system.
Can't believe your running store won't be getting new shoes in until June or July! That's nuts! Do you have a back up option?
I know that sometimes my socks cause my feet to slip in my shoes and it is totally annoying. Hopefully you can find a new pair that works!
zbsports.com is where i get my shoes a lot of times, they have the older styles. not sure if you do any special lacing, I have to do certain lacing to keep my heel from sliding
Your cramping could be caused by your potassium level too. I got legs cramps a lot when I was pregnant and my dr. told me that sometimes cramping (pregnancy and non-prego related) could be caused by low potassium. She recommended eating bananas. You might give it a try. I love Nuun too...yum!
I think you did the right thing by skipping swim team. Your body probably needed that extra sleep, especially since you haven't been sleeping well.
Calf/foot pain could also be due to the over-worn shoes.
I hate it when the body is tired but the mind refuses to cooperate!
I hear ya on the sleeping problems. The entire month of April was a disaster for me and May isn't going so well either. :P
I love nuun! Tri-berry is one of my favorites.
I hate it when I can't sleep. I had one night this week where I was up too late and then couldn't fall asleep. Needless to say, I wasn't in great shape the next morning. Hope you can sleep better soon.
Hmmm...I've been hearing a lot about cramping lately. Maybe it IS the electrolytes. I have the same problem with sleep when I have too much to do...not necessarily stress, but the mind is overworked. I try reading something light before going to bed...or imagining myself on vacation!
I say it's time to treat yourself to new shoes!!!
That is my favorite flavor Nuun. MMM... Have fun shoe shopping.
I've never tried Nuun but have heard good things about it. Tums cure cramps for me during exercise.
Have you tried www.runningwarehouse.com for your shoes. I have had pretty good luck with their site and they have 2 day shipping for free.
Here's hoping your sleep schedule gets back on track!! I think I agree with some other comments about the cramping and shoes, hope your moms advice works too. Next week will be better!
I get some pretty fierce cramps and it never occurred to be that I could be drinking too much water. I drink so much through the day, I probably do that! Good advice!
That is crazy about the water/ electrolyte thing. I hope it gets better. Have a wonderful, restful weekend!!
I am with you on the shoe thing. I am having a terrible time finding the right fit. Too roomy. Too tight, etc. Good luck.
Huh, most people have a hard time getting enough water! Interesting! Eeeek, hope you can find replacement shoes soon! Have a great weekend.
I had a big problem with feet and calf cramping when I was on swim team (back in the day...) and still do when I really swim a lot. Electrolytes do help me.
I don't know what it is, but I don't sleep well a lot in the spring. Even though the school year is on the downhill slide, there are things that have to get done to wrap the year up. I start to worry about transitioning kids...all that year end stuff. Nothing *too* stressful- but I think the extra tasks just rattle around in my brain.
Huh, interesting. I've never heard of people getting tooo much water! At least you're hydrating? Foam roll possibly?
Good luck getting shoes!
EEEKK hope you can track down some new shoes!
Don't wait on the shoes! I put off getting new shoes and now I'm nursing an injury. Grrrr!
If you know your size, Holabird Sports has GREAT deals on shoes.
This is definitely a busy time of year at work, I get really stressed at this time of year and then have trouble sleeping. It's okay to skip swim team every once in awhile to get some extra sleep- especially when you had a tri.
Whenever I get calf cramps my fiance tells me to eat bananas and take advil. Haha...I don't get them after though so maybe there is some truth?
i hope the nuun helps you with the cramps - i've found that it helps me.
I'm thinking the new shoes will help with issue #1 too! :) Check online... sounds like you know what you want. You'll probably be able to find a good deal!
I love Nuun too.
I wish I had some advice for the cramping - hopefully a little time of the feet is curing it.
