Three Things Thursday

  1. Got my first "friend request" on Facebook from a former student. Eeks. If I remember correctly, she was in 3rd grade when I did my residency at that school, which would make her a 6th grader. Nope, not ready to make friends with 12 year olds. That would require me to clean up my FB a bit, inlcuding my comments. No thanks.

  2. Jess over at Run Girl Run has asked me to do a guest post on her blog while she is away on vacay. I was super honored to do so! I will let y'all know when that gets posted!

  3. I saw the sun for the first time in days yesterday. And it was WONDERFUL. The snow started to melt a bit on the ground... and everyone is already talking flood predictions. I think we are at 86% right now, where last year at this time the prediction for flooding was at 73%. I have a bad feeling it's going to be another nasty spring.

I know what you mean about cleaning up your facebook. I had to do a cleaning on mine before accepting requests from my neice and SIL. Now, my grandma is even on FB. Crazy.

I have students "friend request" all of the time. I am not ready for that either!

So, you do guest posting... Excellent. I know who contact when I need to take a week off!

I agree with you on your call to say no way to the twelve year old becoming a Facebook friend! It is sweet that she wants to be your computer friend but you shouldn't have to change how you post your Facebook page to make it okay for the eyes of a twelve year old. Thank God for sunshine and melting snow! Have a great day:)

Um, yeah, I probably wouldn't be adding any students on FB (even if I had students).

YAY for sun! Hopefully it won't get too messy.

I love the sun.

I am a youth minister... and I do not "friend" my youth... not that I would need to clean up my facebook, but maybe my friends! LOL!

Thank you thank you thank you for writing the guest post! In case you didn't get my email, you're first up on Monday!!!

Would a student really want a teacher as a friend on Facebook? Wouldn't that be weird for them, too? What an awkward situation.

You know, you should steer clear. There have been cases where teachers have friended their students and posted things they shouldn't have exposed their students to (literally). An oversight on the part of a teacher does not mean they won't get in trouble.

Way to be smart...

I agree with you regarding your student friend request. Just not appropriate. Sun does help the mood!

i love your pic in the mirror! you look amazing!

Great luck on seeing the sun here...I wait...I wait...

You saw the sun?? I am not sure I believe you. In fact, I am not sure that such a thing even exists anymore!

I love when the sun comes out!!! Makes me feel like spring can't be that far away.

Most friends of mine that are teachers or work in the school system, do not become friends with students... it's too risky since you can't see who will tag you in a photo. You can always deny a tag, but sometimes not fast enough! I'd ignore the request if I were you!

That's too funny about the former student. I'm a grown up (obviously) and I'm not sure I'd want to FB friend any of my old teachers.

Ooo the sun. I miss the sun. I only ever see it these days driving too and from work and I live in the deep south.

Fearing students "friending" me on FB is exactly why I stayed away from it for so long. I only caved because my friends peer pressured me.

Yeah, I'd avoid friending a student. (There are ways you can set FB so they wouldn't be able to see your stuff, but I'd still avoid it.)

Yay for sun! We get plenty of that in between these huge storms.

Oooo a guest post! so fun! I was happy to see the sun today too! The bad part was it got cold REALLY quick after the sun went down.

I wish I had more sun, I am really missing it!! And I have started to ignore friend requests on FB from people that I just "know" especially from High School! I am so rude, I know. ;)

Winter + that hour = rockstar. Great pic of you too! :)

Yeah for the sun! When I was living in New Hampshire I felt like I lived in the dark all winter.

My in-laws in Bismarck are escaping the snow and heading to Florida to day for a few days. I'm jealous!
