Reflection & Repentance

Lenten season has begun and with the week I have had I didn't make it to Ash Wednesday church service. At first I forgot it was Ash Wednesday and then when I did come to the realization, I wasn't able to make it to service because of my chat session for grad class. Stuff happens.
Many people who celebrate the lenten season try to find things to give up for 40 days. Most the time I do so myself. If I decide to give something up, it's usually something that I really have a hard time parting with - kind of my own personal sacrifice.

This year, my Lenten season will be two-fold:
  1. I am giving up sweets. Now, this is pretty broad, but for me it will include the following: candy, chocolate, soda, and all baked goodies. *sigh* However, this will not include my coffee - but I will be cutting back significantly.

  2. I find it to be a great time to reflect on life in general and to help myself become a better person all around. Nuff said, right!?

Have a great weekend everyone!

I need to give up sweets, but that seems mean to everyone around me

I should be giving up sweets too! I usually do good for the first few days and then get stressed or something and I end up caving:) I think that attempting to be a better person is a wonderful thing to put on the list. Jill had a post the other day that made me really think about life in general. I can most certainly be doing a few things to better myself as a person too!! Great post:) It is Friday....I hope that you enjoy your weekend:)

I am giving up sweets as well! I really need to do this. For the last few weeks I have gone crazy eating a ton of cookies and brownies. I am going to use youas support!!

I am still trying to focus my thoughts on what I should give up per say. I feel that I should try to make more quiet time for myself without distractions of tv or computer. I think reading more would be beneficial too. I think this season is about getting closer to God and in whatever way I can do that.

I don't give up things for Lent, but I am trying to be a more present mom to my kids. Hopefully by the end of Lent it will be a "habit" and my kids will get more of me on a daily basis.

I have not thought about what I have given up yet. I probably should get on that. We did end up making it to mass. I always use this time of year to reflect and do some "spring cleaning in my life".

I wish you well in denying yourself sweets for the next 40 days (actually now 38).

Good luck!

I have up most of the internet (I allow myself 30 minutes a day).

While I'm not Catholic I do appreciate the idea of focusing on eliminating something that's not working in your life and sacrificing it up. I really like your second 'sacrifice'. as I see it more as a great intention which I love;-)

Oh man. Giving up sweets would be SO hard for me right now. SO hard. Good luck girl...you can DO it!

I think your Lenten sacrifices are good ones. Sweets are really hard to do and is something I shy away from because I become a major crank without some chocolate from time to time.
