Freakin' Freezin' ....fo reals

I know some of you get to experience cold weather and I know some of you freak out when your temps reach near freezing. However, I thought I would share a bit about our weather that we are dealing with up here in Fargo, ND.... all week.
  • daily highs between -4 and -20 degrees without wind chill
  • daily lows between -15 and -40 degrees without wind chill
  • blowing snow, causing white out conditions on open roads
  • increased chances of frost bite and hypothermia if skin is exposed too long

....all of the above leading to no morning, lunch, or afternoon recess for kids...a teacher's worst nightmare!

All I know is that when the temperatures reach 30 degrees above zero this coming Sunday, it's going to feel like a dang heat wave and I can guarantee that there WILL be people walking around in hooded sweatshirts instead of their winter coats as if it were spring already.

It's funny that you question how we start our cars in this weather. Sometimes I wonder myself how they can run in conditions like this. They just had some information on how to keep your vehicles running in these low temps... basically, plug them in if they have a heat blocker on them (mine doesn't), and start them ocassionally throughout the day to keep them warm. BUT, the catch is, they recommend you let them run for 30 MINUTES to allow the oil and other liquids to warm up to par... 30 minutes! Can you beleive that! So, I run out to start my car during my lunch and let it run... then I have to start it again a few hours later to warm it up before I leave work... next car I get will have both a block heater and auto start put in it if I plan on stayin' in the midwest!

OK. I'm embarrassed. It's 42 outside "Feels like 35" and I'm complaining it's too cold to run outside.

I'm a wuss.

Brrr...I went to college in Ellendale, ND and remember having wind chills of nearly -100! It was horrible!

I remember living in PA, when in the spring if the temps got up to 40, everyone would be out in t-shirts washing their cars. Now when it's 40 I'm bundled up like an Eskimo. Yuck!

Um, that is just not right. You need to move.

Wow and I was just complaining that it was 32 outside. Sorry about the "no recess" girl, I'm feeling you.

I feel your pain. It's not quite as bad here (wind chills around -40), but it's still frigid! Stay warm!

that's insane! wow, i thought we got some cold up in the NC mountains. There was one time in college where they put a sign up on the dorms -- Don't go outside it's -30 degrees -- but the college didn't cancel classes either.

Now that's seriously cold! And, no outdoor recess for kids. . . . that's just brutal! I hope it "warms up" soon. Try not to break out your summer clothes when it reaches 30. ;)

I just don't understand why people in ND stay there for the winter. They should be migratory :-) LOL...

Stay warm. I guess when it's 10 degrees this weekend in NJ I shouldn't complain.

Yes, we've been getting the same frigid weather. I told my husband this morning that if it is really 30 degrees this weekend, someone WILL wear shorts. Then they showed a guy on the news in downtown Minneapolis wearing shorts and a t-shirt yesterday. These are people who were actually meant to live here (not like me - I was actually meant to live somewhere warmer!)

On the morning news program, I think it was GMA, they reported from Fargo and talked about how freekin cold it was. I thought of you and sent warm vibes.
