I did my part!

We all know that the extra $600 us tax-payers are receiving is given to us in hopes that it will boost the economy. That being the money should be spent, not saved, not used to pay off credit cards, etc.

Well, I have had that dollar amount in the back of my mind for a couple months now, knowing exactly how I wanted to SPEND it.

And that is exactly what I did today. I did my part to boost our economy and SPENT it ... before I actually received it, but it's all the same, right?!

What did I spend it ALL on, might you ask?

Well ... here it is!

I paid off the rest of my bike I had on lay-away ....

....and purchased the following:

...clipless pedals, Shimano cycling shoes (which will work for both my bike and spin bike), helmet, bike shorts, under armour cycling socks, gloves, a little pack to fit under my seat (that contains an extra tire, CO2 container, adapter to fill tires, and a tool to put a new tube on my tire), 1 water bottle holder (for now), water bottle, and a Polar monitor. ... as I got a discount on every accessory.

I am in LOVE.

I just need to find a good name for her. Him? Her? He? She?

Now I just spent a good 5 minutes trying to get my shoes into the clipless petals. Struggled a bit, finally got one in, but then couldn't get the damn thing out! I had a small panic attack and quickly was thankful I wasn't out on the road. I will have to practice a bit more before heading out.

I can't wait to joing a riding group that gathers Thursday nights and Sunday mornings at Scheels! They always go the speed and distance that the newest riders are most comfortable with!

Wow. Thats a great looking bike. If you are having problems getting in and out of the pedals, you may wanna check with your LBS about adjusting the tension on the pedals.

Its great to have a group to ride with that will meet your needs.

Ohhhh yeeeeaaa! So very cool. It is traditional, but not always the case, that the masculinity of the bike is opposite of the rider. I am a firm believer in riding the bike for a while and letting the name come to you of its own free will :-)

I'm not sure what kind of pedals you have, Look, SPD or crank, but you have to kick y our heel to the outside to get'er loose. Have fun! I know you are going to enjoy that ride!!!!!

Nice!! Way to use your $600. Stimulate that economy! WooHoo!!

I use speedplay frogs and there is no tension for clipping in/out (it's a twist motion) so i'm no help there.

And I generally don't name inanimate objects either (such as cars, bike, scooter, etc) so no help there either.

I'm pretty much useless, huh? LOL

Pretty bike!

And for the record, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing with my rebate thingy. I went out looking at bikes this weekend. But haven't purchased one yet. :)

Nice bike!
When the clips are new they're harder to get out of. Maybe practice in the parking lot a couple times before hitting the road.

Yay! Congratulations on your bike purtchase! Once you are able to dig out of all of that snow that you get up there, I think you are really going to enjoy road riding. I find it much more challenging (and stimulating) than spin classes b/c you have to deal with all of the outdoor elements (wind, cars, rough pavement, etc...). You are going to have a BLAST!

Practice LOTS indoors with those clipless pedals before you take it outside. You will probably still fall once you're outside (basically guaranteed), but then you'll be a member of the club! :o)

Congrats again!!!

Very cool! Love all the gadgets and necessities for your bike. Trust me, if I can ride clipless pedals - anyone can. You'll get used to them pretty quickly.

Sweet bike! Gotta second (or third) the bike pump suggestion: low pressure tires are like riding up hill all the time. And I also have to 4th or 5th the pedals comments: twist the heel, get the bike shop to set the tension low, ensure you get one foot out WELL before you think you will stop, and probably most important...

put the foot down that you unclipped, not the other one. It doesn't work. Everybody does it at least once in the beginning. Results range from small scuffs and bruised pride to scarred up bike parts and blood left at the scene.

Now go get some miles on that beast! Well, when the snow melts up there, that is.

Nice bike.
I fell over in my driveway the first time I tried to ride with my pedals. Kids thought I was insane.
