It was hard to get up for swim practice this morning, knowing that I didn't have to go to work right afterwards. It was really chilly this morning and any time your face or arms were out of the water the wind was brutal.
Here's what today's workout looked like:
600M: Freestyle Swim
10x50M: 25 Drill/25 Choice - I chose to swim freestyle.
4x200M: Freestyle Swim, "tarzan" across the lines - Basically what this looked like was swimming freestyle, and when we got to the horizontal lines in the pool (approximately 20M in length), we had to swim "tarzan" style, with our head above the water. I absolutely despised doing this, but knew it would probably be helpful for open water swim.
6x150M: Kick 50/Swim 100 - This is pretty self-explanatory.
Total Swim: 2800M
Only one more day of swim practice left. I haven't decided yet if I am going to join the next session, which starts next Tuesday morning. I will miss one day for sure while I am in NYC, but I can't imagine going back indoors to swim just yet, when the weather is so nice outside!
Happy Tuesday, y'all!

Sounds like you're really enjoying your swim practices and getting a lot out of them. It may be something you want to stick with even if you have to miss a day!
Great workout! I really enjoyed this post. :) I wish I would have practiced those tarzan drills before my tri this past weekend. Several times I forward-crawled to sight then freestyled again. I used a lot of extra energy just to get back into a rhythm, argh!
The key with the tarzan drills is to keep your elbows high and remember to roll as your pull each arm, relaxing the shoulders a bit. I hope that make sense.
it was a chilly morning, but it was still a damn nice day :)
You realize your swim practice distance is WAY past what is required for an Olympic tri, even half iron. Keep up the good work!!
Sounds like swim training is going well. Probably would pay off keeping it up
I can't believe you're done with swim practice this week! Time is sure flying!
Nice workout. Yeah, swimming "Tarzan" (or "water polo") style is helpful on race day.
You mention how the air is freezing, but then comment that "it's so nice outside"! You North Dakotans, I don't know if your temp monitors work correctly :)
Great job getting out there even though you weren't really feeling it when the alarm went off.
Now, I thought I'd left a comment here earlier.
What's with your weather? Cool, chilly? Dang you're hard core to get into the water when its like that.
Have a great time in NYC...
Wow, you are getting some great distances in at your swim clinic! The heads up freestyle will really help you out in open water as you'll need to do that to sight.
