Looking for my next challenge...

.... or race.

I haven't been doing any "training", persay, since the sprint triathlon on August 15th. Swimming has taken a back seat with no laps accomplished thus far in the month of September. Yesterday, I realized that I only ran once last week - bringing this months miles up to a whopping 7.6.

Yes, for reals.

On the flip side, it's been nice to take time to get back into a routine with work, sleep, and just getting my rear to the gym on a regular basis. I have gotten in a handful of two-fers and more strength training than prior to school starting. I have been able to get to BODYPUMP class at least once a week, a yoga class, and some pilates.

I think the routine of working during the day has helped, immensely.

However, I am a person that feels like I can stay on top of my game if I have something to reach for; an event or race, or a challenge for that matter. I have been racking my brain the past couple of days, trying to figure out what it is I want to do. When October rolls around, I would love to be training for something or another and change things up a bit!

Here's some of the things coming up that I am thinking about:

  • 9/18/10 - West Fargo 5K - this would be a last minute decision, and just for fun, if I am around this weekend.
  • 10/9/10 - Fargo Mini Marathon 5K - This weekend I have company, but might be able to squeeze this run in while everyone is still fast asleep. :)
  • 10/10/10 - Running Diva Mom's 10K Virtual Race
  • 11/25/10 - 5K Turkey Trot - I haven't done this one in a few years because the race starts midmorning and my mom hosts Thanksgiving dinner - so I feel bad not helping out that morning...
  • 12/4/10 - Jingle Bell 5K (Arthritis Foundation) - J and I have done this for the past couple of years. And even though it's dang cold out, we keep coming back for more. This year we are thinking about wearing costumes related to the holidays - so if you have any wonderful ideas, please share!

Also, I have seen a blogger or two mention the possibility of a challenge that they are putting together that I might be interested in participating in. And, I am thinking about either putting a virtual race in order for my 30th birthday...

What do you have coming up? Are you doing an personal challenges? Anybody willing to give me any ideas of how to change it up a bit and challenge myself?!

I heat you on needing a specific challenge or goal to work towards. I'm all about my October marathon right now, but I will need something to fill the November/December gap before starting up marathon training AGAIN in January!

Training for a 5k in two weeks on my 45th birthday.

Do a virtual challenge - it's usually quite uncomfortable to let someone else choose a goal for you - but sometimes quite freeing as well

I too usually need something concrete on the calendar to motivate me. For me, the fall is the beginning of the FL race calendar, so I have lots ahead of me!

i totally need something ahead of me to keep training. it's hard to just go run miles with no race in sight. and i'm also with you on being in a routine, that helps a ton too. good luck with any/all you decide to do!

There is also Laura's Jog for JS 10 x 10 Virtual 10k race, it has some awesome prizes and is for a really good cause. The dates are btw 10-1 and 10-10. Just tell her Coach and Wife sent you. Here is the link.

Consider a tri for next summer in Cali... Like Vineman 70.3

tri season is over for this year for me. i am moving to training to race a 5k and do the best i can. i rarely have set an actual goal on a 5k race. i am doing a running class and really hope to see my time improve.

for next tri season i am thinking about an olympic tri and i need to do the research.

I think your little life break will be good in the long run! :) The races you are considering sound great though! :)

A virtual race would be very fun...

I need a goal race to focus my training. It doesn't really matter which one but it should be at least 3 months out.

I hear ya - TBFL and I are going through the same dilemna. We like not having anything specific to train for b/c it allows us to do more strength training and Yoga. But on the other hand, we like the structure of a training plan, as every day we feel lost as to what to do the next day! I think we will try a 10k in October!! Yikes!

Looks like you have lots of fun 5k's to do!

Love the idea of costumes for your Jingle race! Also always love a virtual challenge/race! I did a birthday challenge for my 34th. You can do it different ways, but I swam 3,000yd, rode 34mi, ran 4 over 24 hours. It was hard, but the best birthday gift I gave myself! :) Your 30's are gonna be BIG for you, girl!

Dude, I was just saying how I needed a challenge too.

I love your arthritis race idea- dressing up, etc. I say stay home and help your mom on Thanksgiving.

I love a good challenge every once in a while. I'm hoping Amanda will host her Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge again, but that won't kick off until November.

I think Bobbi did a pile on the miles challenge at some point in the fall last year. I wonder if she plans to do that again.

I really need to look at my schedule and figure out what I am racing! It hard though because its starting to get cold and the number of races are less and less!
