Three Things Thursday

1. Once again, I am amping up my workouts and struggling immensely with my nutrition. I feel that every time I start getting on a roll with my workouts (and rest days), I start feeling sluggish and can't kick that feeling. It's frustrating and I want to figure this nutrition thing out, asap! Any suggestions, tri-peeps? I am on the verge of scheduling an appointment with a nutritionist...

2. A couple girlfriends and I finally got in our "girls night out"! We have been wanting to see the movie Last Song since April I believe but finally got to go last night! We waited so long that the movie was in the cheap theater, but that meant the tickets were only $2! Aftwards we grabbed a drink out on the patio of a local restaurant and caught up on each other's lives since school has been out. It was a great time!

3. Yesterday's great weather allowed Jill and I to finally to do an outdoor ride again. Our plan was to ride to a small town near the FM area and back... finishing it up with a short run. The weather was a beautiful 78 degrees with a little bit of wind. Our short 1 mile run to follow left little to be desired, however. Also, Jill struggled with numbness and tingling feeling in her hands and arms while we were riding (and has previously) - does anyone know what might be causing this?

Happy Thursday, y'all!

I actually think scheduling an appt. with a nutritionist is a great idea. :-)

Jill might be putting too much pressure on her hands/arms while riding the bike. I used to get that too and it was because I was pushing on the nerves in my hands.

I hear you on the nutrition struggles. When I am in full on training mode, I find it so hard to know what to eat and how much ... I either end up feeling exhausted/hungry all the time or weighed down from eating too much. Hope you can figure it out.

Girls night sounds wonderful!

I am horrible at the nutrition thing.

Everyone needs a girls night!!!

I would make the appointment. See if you can get a recommendation. Heck, your insurance might cover it if your Primary Care Physician sends you!

Is your friend wearing cycling gloves? Tingling is a very common problem amongst cyclists. Google Cyclists Palsy. A good pair of gloves should do the trick. It happened to me all the time until I bought gloves, best thing ever!

What you eat is definitely just as important as how much. You should speak with Marni.

Our cheap theater shut down last summer. No more $1 movies. I'm still sad about it. :(

Nutrition is such a tricky thing. Talking to a professional might be a good idea!

LOVE B Theatres! We have one just up the street and never bother going anywhere else because it's such a steal! As for the nutrition thing, I know I have more energy when I cut sugar. Sounds counter productive I know, but after a day or so my system regulates and funtions sooo much better. Good luck!

I struggle with eating right all the time - its hard because I love sweets but I know that I feel better when I stay away from the candy.

Jill should try a Bike Fit. I would guess that would fix it.

Your temps sounds dreamy!!!

I struggle lately with my food! I have been bad about eating breakfast and bad about my veggies and fruits taking priority over processed and breads( I love me some muffins!). I have added Chia into my diet and with that and spinach in green monsters, I do really notice an energy difference! Good luck!

Glad you were able to fit in a fun girls night! Sounds like a good time.

As far as the nutrition, I know different sugars or sugar substitutes can make me tired. Is that something you've considered?

The nutrition thing is a hard thing to master, I'm struggling with it as well. I found I wasn't eating enough calories in a day, have added more, and found a difference. Good luck!!

I would recommend "Forever Fit" by Rick Kattouf as a great place to start. Very easy to ready and very practical steps for "every day" nutrition for athletes and non-athletes alike that want to be healthier and more fit.

Rick also offers nutritional coaching (as well as multisport coaching) where he creates each and every meal for you to help get you started in the right direction.

Best of Luck

Gotta love a girls' night out!

Schedule that appointment with the nutirtionist! It would be worth it to have a pro help you out!

WRT nutrition: one of the mantra's is "eat to train don't train to eat." What that means is figuring out your nutritional demands based on the workout plan. See a nutritionist couldn't hurt.

WRT Jill: the most common cause for that is poor position on the bike (too far forward putting too much weight on her hands). The next step on longer rides is neck pain. Solution is to see someone for a bike fit since a small adjustment typically cures this.

Love girls night out! Love even more....JUNK FOOD! Sigh~I'm terrible. I though about asking jillian from "losing it with Jillian" to make an appearance at my house...

The balance with nutrition and exercising is tough. I hope that you get it figured out.

i say schedule an appt with a nutritionist. it was by far the best thing I did for myself ~3 yrs ago when I decided to take triathlons a bit more seriously.

$2 movie? Wow - that is amazing!

Your friend needs to have her bike looked and and re-fit. This happened to me when I started running more I had to have a different stem put on because my body had changed. After that all the pain went away. Also, her arms should be bent a little when she is riding - not straight out. Again this happened to me and nothing a little adjustment couldn't fix.

I'm reading the Last Song right now! I want to see the movie after : )
I think you should definitely schedule an apt with a nutritionist! I've always wanted to do that.

#2 - Yay for GNO!

#3 - I think a few have already mentioned it, but I too had this problem until I went and had the handlebars adjusted so that I put less weight on them.

For nutrition..and getting past that sluggish feeling...I do more celery and carrots and salads throughout the day. I also have an apple a day....and couple it with some nuts of some sort. Given that I am pretty much up at 4 to 4.30AM every day..and have training, work and my evening MBA program....it has worked for me.

I think a nutritionist appt sounds like a great idea. Ask ahead of time if they work with athletes!

Man I wish I had a suggestion about the nutrition, but I don't. I'm guessing you are getting enough protein? I think scheduling a session or two with a nutritionist is really not a bad idea. Have you tried keeping a food journal? Think about doing that and then having the nutritionist look over it at your meeting.

I am not good at nutrition..but the girls night out sounds fun!
