Shattered PR?

I forgot to mention this in my race post yesterday, but I couldn't help but wonder if the race course was actually 3.1 miles. I mean, it's easy to doubt the distance when I was able to shatter my PR by 2 minutes. But, they did call it a 5K, so I am going to agree with the time, move on, and be extremely happy with my PR! You'd do the same, wouldn't you?

This afternoon I hit up the gym for a nice run. It was too dark by the time I left work to do it outside. The goal was to do a little speed work. I didn't really have a concrete plan in mind, I wasn't going to do 400's or 800's, but just go with the flow and see what the body could handle. When I would increase the the speed, I would drop the incline; when I would slow down, I would up the incline to about 2%. When all was said and done, I was pleased.

Tomorrow morning the plan is to get wet. It's been a week since I was last in the pool and I am dying to get back in!

Today's Workout: Run 3.56 miles, 37:30, 10:32/mile average
Today's Song: O.A.R. - Shattered (new song!)

Hey... 5K is 5K! Definitley be proud!

I luuuurves me some speedwork! Got it on the agenda for tomorrow. I think the main point when you are just starting out with it is to just get those legs to turnover faster by shortening your stride. Sounds like you accomplished that. :o)

What an appropriate song for your song of the day. I love that song! And nice work on the run this afternoon.

I think you're just getting that much better; never questioned the distance at all.

Now go get your swim on!

Yep, I'd call it a PR!! Nice work! And too bad we couldn't run together!

I agree with you. If it was advertised as a 5K you're good. At least I would.

Face it, you're just getting speedy :)

Yeah, I'd say it was a 5K... it's a PR in my book!

Those on the fly workouts are sometimes the best. Go as fast or as slow as you want for the moment!

Great job this week!

Admit it... you crushed the 5k!

P.S. LOVE working out to O.A.R. Great song!

Did you run with a Garmin? That could confirm your distance. Otherwise, if they called it a 5K, it should be an accurately measured course.

O.A.R is awesome, i remember going to see those guys back in college when they were starting out playing dives. Looks like a good run, nice job!

Unless you know for a fact that the course was short, I would say you count it. I've started wearing my Garmin during races for this reason.

Have fun in the pool.

Definitely.. I am sure they measured the course out! Nice job with the speed work.

Hey 5K is a 5K and it is totally possible to shatter that 5K PR so on that not perfect song of the day. They play it on Siruis so much though that I have had to hang it out to dry lately. Hope they pool welcomes you back with a smile.

Oh seriously, you shattered the PR, don't question the course!!!

I love it when I'm dying to run or swim, or workout in some way. It feels so motivating !!

Hope you are still relishing the PR!

Wow, that's an amazing run. Two minutes in a 5k is like 20 in a marathon. I guess there's something to be said for going "cold turkey." :-)
